Y'all, it is literally almost March!! I swear I think I said that at the end of January for February, and I'm sure I said it every month last year, but I just can't believe the older I get, and the older my kids get the faster time seems to pass by.
Speaking of my kids, I had mentioned, or thought I did, about my oldest, Kayla, joining the Navy...she was waiting on a waiver to be signed, and it was approved!
She is going to be a Hospital Corpsman, and she is supposed to leave for basic training on April 2nd. This all means that some time at the end of May, beginning of June, we will be headed to Chicago to watch her graduate!!
I have been wanting to go to Chicago for a long time, who would have thought that I would be going for Kayla's graduation from basic training. Crazy!
Have you been to Chicago? What are your must sees? We want to hit up a Top Chef restaurant or two, I know that Stephanie Izzard has a restaurant there, and Kelsie was so excited to here that.
We've watched Top Chef together for years. Have y'all seen Top Chef on Bravo?
Anyway. Let's talk smoothie bowls, actually let's talk about this Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl!
This is a classic strawberry banana smoothie on steroids. Seriously. It's hands down the only way I ever want to consume a strawberry banana smoothie again. It's cold, creamy, and filling.
Are y'all into smoothie bowls?
Ever since I started making smoothie bowls before Christmas, I've sort of become hooked. There is something about them that reminds me of my childhood. I have fond memories of sitting at the table at my grandmothers house eating ice cream, that I had basically stirred until it became cold soup.
That is what a spoonful of this does every time, brings those memories flooding back. Ahh, good times!
I think one of the main reasons that I gravitate to smoothie bowls, as opposed to a smoothie is the toppings.
WHAT IS THE BEST BLENDER FOR SMOOTHIE BOWLS?
Iβve used several cheap versions, and have found that hands down every time, the best bang for your buck is the one I have in my kitchen now, this Ninja blender/food processor. Itβs less than $35, and it will turn ice cubes into snow. <β the kind you can make snow balls with.
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl ingredients:

- strawberries
- milk of your choice

- dried banana chips, optional topping

How do I make a dairy free smoothie bowl?
You can pretty much take any smoothie bowl recipe and replace the dairy ingredients with your favorite dairy free swaps. From milk to yogurt, it can all easily be swapped out.
What toppings are good on smoothie bowls?
- fresh fruits
- dried fruits
- dehydrated fruits
- nuts
- chocolate drizzles
- melted peanut butter
- chia seeds
- toasted coconut
The toppings are endless. You make a smoothie bowl and top it with whatever may go with it. Chia seeds have become a staple to all of my smoothie bowls. They are packed with protein!
I eat smoothie bowls for breakfast and snacks a lot. Kelsie loves them for lunches. They are quick, and simple to toss together!

I love the idea of turning a smoothie into a bowl! Whenever I have a smoothie I drink them too fast and end up still being hungry. Turning it into a bowl will give me more texture and hopefully slow me down.

We love smoothie bowls. Great way to get some fresh fruits in our diets. We top our smoothie bowls off with that last little bit of cereal. You know the cereal in the box that's not quite enough for an entire bowl. Love the added crunch.

Thatβs a nice healthy bowl! As far as Chicago, definitely check out Wrigleyville and explore downtown. So much good food to be had, including deep dish pizza (Lou Malnati or Pequods), Italian beef and smoked seafood from Calumet Fisheries (way off the beaten path but well worth visiting if you have access to a car). Au Cheval is excellent for burgers and other dishes, but it can get very crowded.
Joanna says
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I wrote it all down. I know that I want a deep dish, so I'll be hitting up one or both of those! π
