When you have a child with food allergies you tend to do a lot more research on restaurants, than you would if you were going on vacation without a kid with food allergies. I know that we have to steer clear of certain fast food chains because their food is full of ingredients that Kelsie can't have.

I did a restaurant search for our recent trip to Jacksonville Florida, and I ran across Maple Street Biscuit Company.

I was looking for places that we don't have around here in Panama City. I don't know about you, but when we go out of town, I like to choose places that are unique to the area.

What struck me as unique is that Maple Street Biscuit Company only serves breakfast and brunch. We are huge breakfast lovers, and enjoy eating biscuits and the like at all hours of the day. It's the reason we have breakfast for dinner on so many occasions.

Anyway, I sent an email over to Maple Street Biscuit Company, as I do to restaurants that we are interested in visiting, and ask about a couple of Kelsie's food allergies. They were ever so kind, and responded with a few options that she could choose from, and those that she should steer clear of. Awesome!

We arrived at an hour before closing time on Friday afternoon. I was so worried that they were going to shew us out the door, telling us that they were closing soon, and that they had already started cleaning up the kitchen.

Nope. Totally greeted us with hellos, and offering with help on the menu. We went in knowing what Kelsie was going to have, but the rest of us were clueless.

We chose to go with the most popular menu item, seeing as this was our first visit. Zack, Kayla, and I chose The Five - a flaky biscuit, all natural fried chicken breast, pecan wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, topped with sausage gravy with a little kick. Zack and I opted to get the Hashbrown Cake - hashbrown potatoes stuffed with smoked gouda cheese and topped with chives. Kayla chose to get the Smokey Mountain Mac-N-Cheese - five cheese baked macaroni with cheese cracker crust. (ugh, please excuse my blurry photos - I had no idea that there were smudges on my phone until I looked back at the pictures when we left.)

Kelsie got the totally delicious Bam, it's a house-made vanilla bean waffle with asiago and pecanwood smoked bacon baked in. The honey butter was probably her favorite! She said it reminded her of ice cream.

Prices are super reasonable, and portions are large. We honestly didn't need sides with our choices, but chose to get them anyway. This place is very kid friendly, in my opinion.

They don't offer a separate kids menu, however, what kid doesn't love biscuits or waffles?! There are glass jar salads for those that are looking to munch on something green. You can choose to dine inside or out. One thing to note, you will bus your own table.

I didn't find this a big deal, because I'm used to cleaning up after our family at home. Please don't let that deter you from a visit...the food is totally worth it!

Note on the hours, Monday-Thursday they are open from 7am to 2pm, Friday and Saturday is 7am to 3pm, and closed on Sunday; so prepare accordingly.

You don't want to show up at 3 expecting a tasty afternoon snack, and them be closed. They have several locations to choose from, not just in Jacksonville! Tennessee, you're in luck! Check out where you can find one near you!

I tend to do a lot of research too before I try a new restaurant. I am a vegetarian so the menu is of importance to be for sure. The waffles look really good btw.
