It's that time of the year when it seems that every corner you turn somebody is sneezing, sniffling, coughing, or complaining of a sore throat. We have been extremely lucky this year, because out of the four of us in our family, only Kayla has been sick.
Thankfully she was only sick for a very short period of time, and it didn't make the rounds through the house like it normally does. Even though we have been lucky this year when it comes to getting sick, we never let our guard down, because it is cold and flu season, and everyone is susceptible to germs.
Being sick is miserable, and I like to have several items on hand for when sickness hits. Besides medication, these are my Top 5 Must Have Comforts for Cold/Flu Season.
- Bigelow Tea - to stay hydrated and to help sooth sore throats
- Peppermint Essential Oil - to help clear nasal passages
- Theives Essential Oil - to kill those germs
- Tissues - for runny noses
- Chicken Noodle Soup - for simple nutrition
Now, let me explain why these are my favorites! Bigelow Tea is nothing new to our family, we discovered it years ago when I was sick. A lady that I worked with told me to go and purchase Bigelow Tea, I think then it was green tea at the time.
However, she told me to add juice from a freshly squeezed lemon, shaved fresh ginger, and honey. You know what? It was so soothing on my sore throat, and I could only manage to swallow liquids, and the warmth made my throat at the moment feel so good.
We've been hooked ever since, and I always make sure to have it during cold and flu season! It's just one of those things that works double time, soothing a sore throat while keeping you hydrated.
I love that Bigelow Tea is made with carefully selected ingredients so I know that our family is only getting the best. I love that with their lemon teas, (we really enjoy Lemon Ginger) they grow their lemons in the USA to ensure that it meets the FDA and USDA standards. I love when ingredients are locally grown and resourced. It makes me feel good about what I'm giving my family.
The peppermint and thieves essential oils are another important part of our comforts during the cold and flu season. We use peppermint to clear nasal passages in a cinch. One whiff of the bottle and at times your sinuses will open right up! Or you can dilute it with your carrier oil and rub a bit on your chest to help you breath.
Thieves to kill those germs! I like to diffuse it when one of us is sick, or we've been around someone that was sick. I have even been known, with strep or just a sore throat to place one drop in my Bigelow Tea. The cinnamon flavor goes perfectly with the hints of cinnamon and licorice in the Lemon Ginger Tea. (make sure that your essential oil can be ingested before trying this out!)
Tissues are self explanatory! They are also the item that we usually forget to grab at the store, so I always make sure to keep a box on hand. And then we have chicken noodle soup, because it's full of chicken, vegetables, and nutrition. It's easy on the tummy, and usually when your not wanting to eat, it brings you back to childhood, and you can manage to take it in.
There you have my Top 5 Must Have Comforts for Cold/Flu Season! Make sure to grab your Bigelow Tea the next time your in Walmart, because you never know when sickness is going to strike, and you want to be prepared. It's easily found on the aisle with the tea.
I mentioned that one of our favorites was Lemon Ginger, but Bigelow Tea has lots of other tempting flavors that you can give a try! Head over and check them out; let us know which one is your favorite!

The flu epidemic has been pretty bad this year in the US. So many kids had the flu, they shut down the school to disinfect the classrooms. I did not know Bigelow had tea with probiotics. That will help with both nausea and diarrhea. The is a very helpful post.
