Sweet & Spicy Bacon Wrapped Little Smokies hit all the right taste buds! They are so good you can't stop eating them...Perfect for game day or a party snack!
In just a little over a week, folks all over the country will gather around the tv to root for their team, and watch them play in the super bowl.
I will be watching, not for the teams that are playing, but for the commercials.
We aren't that big of football fans here, however we do like watching all the commercials that air during the super bowl.
Since the game will be on our tv, we will probably be gathered around our coffee table playing a board game and eating game day snacks! The snacks are my favorite part of any football game.
I've totally been known to make a bunch of different snack foods, and our family eat them at dinner time on random weekends...just because. Who needs a reason?! 🙂
A couple of years ago I made Sweet and Spicy Bacon Wrapped Meatballs, and they were outta this world yummy!
As I was looking at my snack recipes on the blog, I wondered how well that same recipe would turn out using little smokies. I bought the ingredients and gave it a try.
I'm glad I did because wow, these are quite tasty little bites!
There are several brands of those cocktail sausages, but we buy Kiolbassa brand since Kelsie has a corn syrup allergy. These are made with real sugar, and not that syrup that was produced in a chemistry lab. Yes, they cost a bit more, but they are so worth it.
I have only seen the Cranberry Mini Smoked Sausages, so that's what I buy. I can't taste the cranberry at all, they just have some awesome flavor. They pair so perfectly with the sweet and spicy flavors from this rub.
One tip when slicing the bacon up, make sure that you lay your sausage on the bacon, and roll it up before slicing. I made the mistake of slicing it up before testing out how much I would need, and totally messed up!
I didn't have enough bacon to wrap around, and then when I stuck the toothpicks in, trying to make it work, the bacon tore, and it was just a disaster.
I also suggest thick cut bacon, as it has the best flavor, to me. I bought the house original bacon from Lucky's Market. Do y'all have a Lucky's? Ours just opened a few months ago, and we love it! It reminds me of a mix between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. We shop there often for a lot of different things, especially their bacon!
Anyway, this recipe can totally be made ahead of time, and then wrap your pan in foil or cling wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake. That way you can pop these in the oven at the pregame show!
What do you need to make this yummy appetizer?

Slice bacon into 3 pieces, and start wrapping the little smokies.
Thoroughly coat the bacon wrapped little smokies in the brown sugar chili mixture, and lay on a foil lined baking sheet. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Sweet & Spicy Bacon Wrapped Little Smokies hit all the right taste buds! They are so good you can't stop eating them...Perfect for game day or a party snack!
Ingredients
- 1 pound thick cut bacon
- 1 package little smokies
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
Instructions
- If making these to bake now, preheat oven to 375 degrees. Otherwise, do this when you're ready to bake them.
- In a small bowl mix together the brown sugar and chili powder. Set aside.
- Line a baking sheet with foil. Measure out how much bacon to roll for each little smokie. I got about three little smokies per slice of bacon. It's gonna depend on the thickness of the bacon, etc. Roll the little smokie up, secure with a tooth pick and thoroughly coat with the brown sugar mixture. Place on baking sheet, and repeat until you've rolled all the little smokies up. If you have extra bacon, just coat it with the brown sugar mixture and bake it as well. So good!!
- When ready to bake, bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp along the edges.

Football definitely calls for appetizers. I'm guilty of doing the graze when I'm watching the big game, especially if I'm not really into either team. You need good food to keep you entertained till the ads and halftime come on.
