Kick up your next pizza night with homemade pizza pockets or calzones. Your family and guests can build their own, including only their favorite ingredients.
We love having build your own pizza pockets because Zack and Kayla can stuff theirs with peppers, onions, and the like; while Kelsie and I can enjoy just plain pepperoni and cheese.
These make great leftovers as well. Make a batch and heat them up throughout the week for quick lunches or a cheaper then fast food dinner. Plus who doesn't love pizza pockets? I can see these created in a smaller variety for yummy summer snacks!

What do you need?
Pizza dough, you can use our No Rise No Fail Homemade Pizza Dough Or you can use your own
Your dough should be divided into approximately 8 - 3oz balls
Favorite pizza toppings such as: cheese, pepperoni's peppers, onions, minced garlic, olives, sausage, ham, etc.
What do you do?
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees
Roll out your dough into ¼ inch thick rounds
In the center place your favorite toppings, careful not to overfill
Fold both sides upward, similar to a crunchy taco shell and pinch the edges together
Place it on it's side on a greased baking sheet and press with your knuckles around the seam to hold together
Using a paring knife, place one small half-inch to one-inch hole in the top middle
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown
Serve with your favorite pizza sauce, or try a garlic infused olive oil

We love pizza pockets! I call them "pizza surprises" in our house, although they are not much of a surprise as my fussy kids only like limited ingredients in them. LOL!

Thanks for stopping by! I was a fussy eater growing up, and still am to an extent. I will pick pepperoni and cheese for my pizza any day over veggies. If you try them out, let me know what you think!

My husband absolutely loves pizza pockets but they're so expensive to buy! I must try this recipe! Thanks!

Thank you for stopping by! Your husband will love this version! So quick, easy, and taste so much better then the store bought. If you give the recipe a try, let me know what you think. 🙂

So happy to find this recipe! My girls keep asking for the store bought ones but I'm not so happy with the ingredients in those. Have you tried freezing these? If so, would you freeze them before baking them?
Joanna says
Hi Lisa, thanks for stopping by! I have not frozen these before, as they get eaten fairly quick at our house. I would freeze them after they were baked, and reheat in the oven wrapped in foil. So perhaps freeze them individually in foil. If you wanted to do the microwave then I wouldn't wrap in foil, but freeze them wrapped in parchment paper. I hope this helps. And if you do freeze them, let me know how they turn out!
