I have burgers on our bi-weekly menu at least once, sometimes twice. Kelsie gets sick of eating the same hamburger with cheese, so I decided to search for something different.
Zack grew up in Indiana where they enjoyed pork burgers at a nearby restaurant. I couldn't imagine eating pork as opposed to ground beef, but I decided to compromise and go for it.
I went to my favorite place, Pinterest, and found a super easy recipe from Spicy Southern Kitchen. I fixed them up and was astonished at how tasty they were!
I've made these burgers at least 4 dozen times, because we eat them at least once a month. I've tweaked the recipe just a bit to accommodate our tastes.
The one thing I really like about these Spicy Pork Burgers is that ground pork is cheaper than ground beef! I'm always looking at ways to cut our grocery budget. I don't know about yours, but meat is always our big expense. So adding these to our menu once a month helps.
If you're looking for ways to save some money, I've got menu planning printables to help!
Before I give the recipe for the Spicy Pork Burgers, I've been wanting to share my french fry recipe for a while now, but have neglected in doing so because....I buy frozen fries! YIKES! haha. The thing is, I buy Alexia brand fries, and bake them. They turn out perfectly crisp and tasty every single time.
How do you know when pork burgers are done?
Make sure that when you're cooking pork burgers, you use an instant read thermometer. You don't want to eat under cooked pork, BUT you also don't want to eat over done pork.
You are looking for the perfect internal temperature of 160 degrees.
Toppings for pork burgers:
I love guacamole and melted cheese. You could also saute some bell peppers and onions. Yum!
Are pork burgers healthy?
Yes! They are packed with lean protein.
Can I use ground chicken?
Of course! This recipe would be so good using ground chicken.
How do you make frozen french fries taste like homemade?
Heat your oven up, toss the frozen fries on the tray, and while they are frozen season them with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss to coat evenly, bake for 25 minutes, tossing at 12 minutes.
Who knew to season them while they were still frozen?? I had no clue! I just did it one day years ago, not thinking...I was in a hurry and for some crazy reason thought that I had already baked them. I was worried that the seasonings would burn.
Thankfully that didn't happen and I had a new way to cook those frozen fries. We eat fries this way with all the burgers we eat.
Ok, if you've read this far, yay! Here's that Spicy Pork Burger recipe. 🙂
What can I serve with pork burgers?
- Baked French Fries in the Oven
- Skinny Broccoli Salad with a Poppy Seed Dressing
- Loaded Baked Potato Salad
