This simple Perfect Cut Out Cookie Buttercream Frosting is made with 4 ingredients and tastes amazing!
On Friday I shared with y’all my recipe for No Chill Perfectly Shaped Sugar Cookies, and today I’m gonna share with y’all the frosting that I top them with. I have tried the icing where it becomes all glazy, and I’ve tried “flooding” cut out sugar cookies, but in both instances they turn out horrid. Unless your a pastry chef or run across an excellent well written tutorial, perhaps with a video, and the time to practice all of that, this really is the perfect cut out cookie buttercream frosting.

It’s 4 ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to make. You can easily have any other flavor you can dream of, just by swapping the vanilla extract in the recipe for mint, almond, lemon, or other flavor that your craving the day you make it. I bet chocolate cut out cookies with a mint frosting would be perfect for Christmas! You can make it whatever color you want with food coloring, and then you’ll be ready for any holiday or party. They can be frosted to look great with or without sprinkles, and you don’t have to wait for anything to “harden” before you start eating it! See, it’s perfect!
Perfect Cut Out Cookie Buttercream Frosting
- 1/3 cup butter softened
- 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 3 cups powdered sugar
In a large bowl beat together your butter and powdered sugar.
Toss in your vanilla and milk, beat until smooth and creamy.
If your going to color your frosting, mix in your choice of coloring at this time.
When it's the color your wanting, use a small metal off set spatula (or a butter knife) to smooth the frosting on, working from the center of the cookie, out towards the edges.
*If frosting appears to thin, add a teaspoon of powdered sugar.
