Cookie Buttercream FAQs
Can I make this buttercream frosting ahead of time? Yes! Simply place it into an airtight container in the fridge. when you're ready to frost cookies, simply place it on the counter and allow to come up to room temperature. At this point, you can whip it back up, if needed.
How do I store buttercream frosted cookies? If you are eating within 3 days, these are best kept at room temperature in an air tight container.
Can you freeze buttercream frosted cookies? Yes! To freeze these cookies, you want to "flash freeze" by placing the frosted cookies in a single layer on a baking sheet into the freezer for an hour. You'll then place a piece of parchment paper between the cookies and store in a freezer safe container or bag. Once flash frozen these cookies will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
How do you thaw buttercream frosted cookies? Simply remove the cookies from the freezer and allow to sit at room temperature in the container or bag, for 1 to 3 hours. Time will depend on the room temperature.

This looks amazing! I'm going to have to go back and try your recipe for sugar cookies - I'm still trying to find a really good one! Flooding is hard for sure, you definitely need the exact right consistency, and sometimes you just don't have time for that! (Plus buttercream is so much tastier than royal icing!)

Does the frosting harden? Ive been trying desperately to find a frosting that hardens and actually tastes good :b
Joanna says
It does harden quite a bit. You can't actually sit cookies on top of the frosting because it will leave dents in the frosting. Does that make sense?
