Naturally Sweetened Peanut Butter Fudge Smoothie

I love having smoothies for breakfast, but once you start using protein powders or instant breakfast packets, the sugar is on the rise, and with my low blood sugar, I crash 30 minutes later. No good. Honestly not really good for anybody, blood sugar problems or not.

I was on Pinterest one day; actually I’m there all the time, go over and follow me, and I saw a recipe from one of my favorite bloggers (Minimalistbaker). I had to recreate it and make it allergy friendly for Kelsie! It’s delicious and we all love having these in the mornings. I kind of make a triple batch and the girls and I drink these for breakfasts on the go.

Scroll down for a printable version.

What do you need?
1 to 1 Β½ cups milk (or alternate dairy of your choice)
3 pitted dates
1 sliced, then frozen banana
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon peanut butter

What do you do?
All all of your ingredients into a high powdered blender, we have a Ninja.
Begin by pulsing several times to get the frozen banana and dates broken down.
Blend until all ingredients are blended together.
Enjoy!

Thank you! The dates bring the perfect sweetness to it without all the added sugar. πŸ™‚

This looks really good. I don’t think I’ve ever had dates. Do they add a flavor to t his or just a sweetness?

There is a bit of a flavor, but it’s more there for the added sweetness. I’m sure you could add in honey, agave, or even maple syrup. Or taste it without, still just as yummy, not as sweet. πŸ™‚

Smoothies are a best friend to those who are in a hurry or those that just want a way to “eat” their greens! We love them too. πŸ™‚

Yummy! You could add a scoop of protein powder as well for more of a “meal”…

    • Joanna

      July 3, 2015 at 2:51 PM

Sometimes protein powders, because of the added sugars make me have a sugar crash. For most people it’s completely fine to add the protein powder. πŸ™‚

That’s what I thought as well! Dates are so versatile and Vegans use them all the time as their sweetener.
