I have been a long time fan of Food Network's Alton Brown. He is pretty darn amazing, and I have watched him for years. However, I had never read any of his cookbooks.
I recently picked up his newest, Everyday Cook, and low and behold was this dip that I literally had to make asap.
We love dips.
Dips are essential in all aspects of entertaining. You will never step foot at a birthday party, tailgating table, or church lunch without a dip. It's usually a cheesy dip or a vegetable dip.
Well this dip will put the others to shame. It's made with Greek yogurt so it's healthy! It's packed with protein, thanks to that yogurt, and the flavors are fresh and mighty tasty.
This is the best dip recipe ever! It's uber creamy, tangy and puts ranch packets and sour cream to shame! Plus it's just as easy. Homemade is always better, and in the case of this dip...hands down. Yep!
Can you use sour cream or mayonnaise in place of the Greek yogurt?
I would steer clear of the mayo in this dip, but sure; you can totally swap the yogurt for the sour cream. It just want be packed with that protein.
What can you serve this dip with? Just veggies?
Carrot sticks - celery - strips of bell peppers - cucumbers - grape tomatoes - fresh broccoli and cauliflower florets - sugar snap peas - chicken wings - and even a topping for burgers. (the last two were AB's suggestions!)
This is excellent an excellent dip for carrots and celery dip. It's a healthy dip for carrots and celery.
How long will this dip stay fresh?
Up to 10 days, in the fridge, in an air tight container. Of course it won't last that long. If you do happen to store it, like all yogurt, it will separate just a bit, and will need a good stir. And it's true what they say about most dips...it's better then next day! The flavors have time to meld together.
Do I have to use fresh herbs?
Here's a secret...I never buy fresh herbs anymore. They never last quite long enough for me. Since they are kinda pricey, and I hate throwing money away, I buy herbs in the little containers that are partially dried. You can buy them in the produce section, and they are located with the herbs, usually on a shelf right above or beside the fresh herbs. They have the same flavor and last longer. Do not use totally dry herbs that you buy from the spice section.

Love veggies! All kinds too. This looks like a good healthy alternative to many of the dips and dresssings available in stores. And you can tailor it to your own taste buds!

That dip looks so good. We love veggies and a little dip makes it a little more fun to eat for the kids.

So much healthier making your own veggie dip this way rather than using a mix with loads of preservatives. Will have to try this and see if my kids will eat more raw veggies with this dip. They have grown tired of ranch and hummus. Pinning for later!
Shelby
I've been trying to eat more vegetables recently and I'm tired of the same old thing. I can only do ranch and hummus for so long. This dip looks perfect! I'd love to try it.

Yes to this very lovely dip! I love collecting dip recipes since the kids and I always have a movie night and we want to be able to have dips for our snacks! I'm totally keeping this recipe. Thanks!

We are trying to eat more veggies in our house. I have grown to love sliced red pepper and dip. I bet this will be delicious.
Angela Tolsma
I haven't made veggie dip in ages. I would never have thought to use greek yogurt! I usually just eat them plain but this would help me eat more of them!
Veronica
Actually I keep forgetting about making a dip for my veggies. But I should make some because I can then eat more veggies. So simple and healthy.

Sorry to say this dip was not the best dip ever! I made it for a group of 14. Not many of our guests liked it. Maybe you should call it a low carb dip, but the best ever dip I cannot concur!
Donna
I made the dip for a special occasion, but after tasting it, I knew there was no way I was taking it! it was really bland and was not good with the vegetables at all. I ended up throwing it all away.
