When I was growing up I can only recall a few Halloweens that I went trick-or-treating. I can't remember if it just wasn't my family's thing or if it wasn't as widely celebrated as it is today. I remember when we lived in Irondale (Alabama) that we never had a trick-or-treater. We lived on a dead end road, with only a few houses. Only two of which children lived in, including mine. We had two cardboard ghost cut-outs that I can still see if I close my eyes. They had this glow in the dark outer edge. I suppose I thought they were cool. 🙂

Anyway. When we moved to Florida, I was going into the 11th grade, even though I didn't trick-or-treat, I was looking forward to passing out candy. That never happened. We live on a crazy busy street that no parents in their right mind would ever allow their kids to wander down at night. Ugh. Still no trick-or-treat fun!

Fast forward to today; as soon as my kids were old enough to trick-or-treat you better believe they dressed up in their favorite costumes and pranced around the neighborhood (the one behind us, not on the busy street) and got candy. I had to catch up on all that I may have missed out on growing up!

Speaking of growing up, as I've gotten older and became a mom, I look at Halloween with a different gleam in my eye. I try and find fun Halloween themed foods to make and feed my family during the week of Halloween.
